sounds like this is coming from someone who wasn't involved with donation
process to occaid at all. no offense though.
as being the dns hostmaster responsible for d.1.0.4.e.f.f.3.ip6.arpa, i can
tell you we were praised by some of our donors for focusing in routing
academics by our members through framework than transiting IRC bits. we would
only encourage more sponsorship by blocking irc in my personal opinion. by the
same token, we, being low level network OPERATORS than POLITICIANS, don't want
to filter traffic on the network and get into political debates.
if you have problem with spamcalc framework on our network, get a /48 from
someone else, less work for me. as SJC says, feel free to use our network to
send bits from such /48 to better improve your IRC experience for all i care.
i dont see why people are so frantic about a framework. nothing is perfect in
this world. and as being a non-profit network that moves largest traffic in the
ipv6 world today, we have no time to monitor all our end user activities. we
have no interest to be bunch of police. if you have problem with the
framework, don't make yourself become the problem to get noticed by an operator.
just how many rules are internaly or by makeshift created within occaid that
are being actively enforced today? absolutely, none.
There are tens of script kiddies sitting on 3ffe:401d::/32 by the look right
now. it is a sad but true fact. but are we going to care? they didn't create
any problems nor did we receive abuse reports. so why waste time dealing with
the issue about a FRAMEWORK when these so-called kiddies didn't inconvene any
one? if you think we have the human resources to be dedicated full-time on some
non-profit project, Think Different[tm].
