OK, it gets weirder :)
What seems to be happening is that the tunnel begins dropping packets at
some point in time. It continues to do so.. until I perform a
traceroute. Then, everything returns to normal and remains that way for
days or longer.
I'm completely baffled by this, yet I am pretty sure the traceroute is
actually fixing the problem. If I try to SSH over the connection,
nothing goes through until the moment the traceroute goes then instantly
SSH finishes connection. Likewise for an HTTP request. Previously I
had been actively using the tunnel when it dropped but then more
recently the tunnel dropped overnight and it remained down in the
morning until I performed a traceroute after which it *immediately*
began working perfectly.
Any ideas? The endpoint here is running Linux 2.6.15.1.
